집 떠나와 列車타고 訓練所로 가던 날

when I walked outside the gate after a deep bow to my parents,

가슴 속에 무엇인가 아쉬움이 남지만

something lacking was still inside my heart.

풀 한포기 親舊 얼굴 모든 것이 새롭다

Including a tiny clump of grass and my bud's face, everything's fresh to me.

親舊들아 軍隊가면 便紙 꼭 해다오

My beloved friends, when I join the army, please be sure to write letters

in order that I'd never forget all the joyful days with you.

列車時間 다가올 때 두손 잡던 뜨거움

When the boarding time became close, I felt the warmth of two holding hands.

汽笛소리 멀어지면 작아지는 모습들

When the steam whistle faded in, the faces went to be smaller.

이제 다시 始作이다 젊은 날의 꿈이여

Therefore, this is a new beginning for the dream of my youth.

짧게 잘린 내 머리가 처음에는 우습다가

My short haircut was funny at first,

거울 속에 비친 내 모습이 굳어진다 마음까지

but my face reflected in the mirror becomes stiff, even my heart.

뒷童山에 올라서면 우리 마을 보일런지

If climbed up the back hill, couldn't I see my hometown?

나팔소리 고요하게 밤하늘에 퍼지면

二等兵의 便紙 한張 고이 접어 보내오

이제 다시 시작이다 젊은 날의 꿈이여

가수이며, 시인, 작곡가, 작가인 김현성이 1980년 즈음인 21세에 작사, 작곡한 노래이다. 이 곡은 김현성이 서울예전 대학생일 때 군입대하는 친구를 배웅한 후 뜨거운 느낌이 들어 만들었다고 한다. 김현성이 부른 노래는 군인들의 사기를 떨어뜨린다는 이유로 1990년 이전까지는 금지곡이었다. 1990년에 한겨레신문사가 주관한 "겨레의 노래" 1집에서 전인권이 다시 불렀고 1993년에 "다시 부르기" 앨범에서 김광석이 불러 큰 인기를 얻었다.
